Keeping track of Test Results |
Blood testing tells you fairly accurately what your blood sugar level is at a particular time. It can detect high, low or normal levels, and thus allow you to monitor your blood sugar patterns throughout the day and night and make proper adjustments. |
Proper record keeping is a crucial part of this process. A log or record book provides space to enter your blood sugar levels at particular times of day for a number of days running. There is also a space to record insulin doses at particular times of each day, and a column in which to note any significant events of the day, such as changes in activity, food consumption or timing, and low blood sugar reactions. |
Using this record you and your health care team can more accurately determine proper insulin doses, adjustments in your diabetes pills and changes to your meal and exercise regimen. |
